Vocaloid’s Hatsune Miku is coming to U.S. Television!?

Yes friends, it’s true. Hatsune Miku is teaming up with Toyota to promote the Toyota Corolla. You can view one of the commercial videos below:

If you’re unfamiliar with Miku, she’s the digital personification used to represent a voice used in a digital synthesizer program called Vocaloid. There are other voices aside from Miku as well: Megurine Ruka, Len, Rin and at least a half dozen others. The Vocaloid software was originally developed by Yamaha. It’s some pretty cool software. They took real human voices and recorded every possible sound needed to form words. Users enter the lyrics they would like sung and the software makes it happen. So why should you care about some software mascot? Well Miku is very popular in Japan as are the other Vocaloid characters. They are used in music videos created with the Vocaloid software. Companies like the Good Smile Company have made collectible figurines and they are hot sellers.

Here’s another video of Miku actually performing “live” in concert and be sure to take note of the crowd’s energy:

Miku has even become part of the Ievan Polka/Loituma meme:

The above is an odd video. There’s many funny ones available on Youtube and I won’t link them all here.
